Fritz Ruppert (German 1878-1937)
Also known as Friedrich Karl Leopold, Fritz Ruppert was born in Karlsruhe, Germany in 1878. He received art education under the guidance of K. Ritter and F. Keller in Paris. He was recognized by his contemporaries for his still lifes and landscapes of Bavaria, Tyrol, Northern Italy and Switzerland, all painted in the academic style and evocative of the Swiss School. He was also a talented etcher who through his travels throughout Europe and the North East United States in the first decade of the 20th century, was able to capture through the large copper plates that he used, wonderful dynamic views of Manhattan and nearby NJ. His work is seldom found and a thorough investigation of his prints is well deserved for an etcher with the capacity seen in the following works.
